1st Grade with Mrs. Gonzalez | All the Rizz, All Year

Saddle up, Rizzlers. 1st Grade Adventure Starts Here!

About Mrs. Gonzalez

Hi! I’m Melissa Gonzalez, the best teacher (according to 19 very reliable first graders). Very huge heart. Very special. Ask anybody. First graders never exaggerate. 😉
I majored in Elementary Education at Michigan State University. Before joining Johnson Ranch, I taught 4th and 2nd grade in Northside ISD. This is my second year at JRES, and I’m grateful to be part of this wonderful community alongside my family. My two boys are proud Johnson Ranch Ropers, too. Teaching first grade is my calling: building confidence, curiosity, and kindness every day. At home we have two cats, Nacho Cat and Pico de Gato, and we love traveling together when school isn’t in session — but we leave the cats at home. 🐾✈️

Homework

The only homework I expect is 20 minutes of reading nightly, logged in Beanstack (our digital reading log). Reading can include student read-aloud, being read to by a parent or sibling, audiobooks, or sites like TumbleBooks. If I send home practice passages, time spent on those counts toward the 20 minutes. No worksheet packets.✨ To help keep your scholar motivated, be sure to check out our Beanstack Prizes. This shows the fun rewards your child can earn by keeping up with their nightly reading!Picture of Beanstack Prizes. They're sigma.

📚 Log Your Reading Minutes in Beanstack

Students will log all of their reading minutes in Beanstack.

🖥️ From a Computer or Chromebook

  1. Go to ClassLink

  2. Log in one of two ways:

    • Scan your QR code from the blue folder (Tip: take a picture of the QR code on your phone so you can use it anytime 📷)

    • Use your student ID as the username and password

  3. Click the Beanstack tile

  4. Start logging your minutes! 🎉

Tip: Students already use ClassLink at school, so this will look familiar to them!

📱 Logging Reading Minutes from a Phone

Families can log minutes in Beanstack using either the app or their phone’s web browser.

✅ Option 1: Beanstack App (easiest!)

  1. Download the Beanstack Tracker app (free in the App Store or Google Play).

  4. Log in one of two ways:

    • Scan your child’s QR code from the blue folder to sign in with ClassLink (Tip: snap a photo of the QR code and keep it in your phone’s gallery for quick use 📷).

    • Use your child’s student ID number as the username and their last name in lowercase as the password.

  5. Start logging minutes anytime, anywhere! 🎉

✅ Option 2: Web Browser on Phone

  1. Go to ClassLink on your phone.

  2. Have your child log in with their QR code (upload the photo) or student ID.

  3. Tap the Beanstack tile.

  4. Log minutes directly in the mobile-friendly site.

ParentSquare

We’ll use ParentSquare as our main hub for class news, newsletters, photos, and important updates. I would love for every family to join so you don’t miss out on any of the fun and important information from our 1st grade adventures. My goal is 100% family connection this year!

Birthdays

We love to celebrate! Store-bought, easy-to-serve treats are perfect. Plates, napkins, and forks are appreciated. Birthdays can be celebrated on a half-birthday. If sending invitations to school, please include the whole class
